Releasing

based in Nakameguro, Tokyo, is a globally recognized select shop.
In addition to its high-sense selection of military items and books personally sourced overseas, the store is known for its collaborations with international designers and artists. Recently, FIFTH GENERAL STORE has also been focusing on developing its own in-house products, further strengthening its unique identity.
Sharing the common ground of having directly operated stores in Nakameguro, we have built a close relationship over the years, which has led to the realization of this collaboration.

For this release, the silhouette has been refined to reduce excessive wrinkling when worn, resulting in a wide yet clean and well-balanced line.
Aiming for a piece that blends more seamlessly into everyday wear, the raw-edge side seams used in the previous model have been updated to flat-felled seams, a construction commonly seen in authentic workwear.

This faded black may appear, at first glance, similar to colors often seen in vintage garments. In reality, however, this shade is achieved through a highly specific and deliberate finishing process.
The fabric is first dyed brown, then overdyed with a different black pigment, and finally treated with a stone bio wash. Through this multi-step process, we are able to create a nuanced tone that cannot be achieved with a single dyeing process.

In the subsequent damage and repair process, scuffing and distressing are applied through shaving and blasting, primarily around the double-knee areas. Each distressed section is then carefully repaired and reworked by hand, one by one.
In some cases, design stitching is intentionally added to areas without damage, shaping the overall expression of the piece. All repairs and design stitching are done entirely ad hoc. By closely examining each individual garment and repeatedly consulting with our artisans—making adjustments along the way—we design what we call a “meticulously natural” finish.

After this, the item is sent back to the dyeing factory for an additional staining process. This final step applies subtle “everyday dirt” effects, capturing the kind of character that only emerges after years of wear.
By the time the pants are fully completed, they have passed through many hands and multiple stages of production. Through this layered process, a depth of craftsmanship is embedded into the garment, resulting in a pair with a rich and distinctive presence.
